What not to publish
Do not show Aadhaar numbers, passport numbers, full registration numbers, signatures, scans of identity documents, full addresses or account information on a public page.
What is useful
Show a generic document category, a masked label, an owner-approved contact method and safe return instructions. Keep ownership proof in a private verification area accessible only to authorised users.
Use tamper-evident material
A destructible label is suitable for document folders and ID holders because it shows visible damage when removed. Do not place stickers over official security features or machine-readable areas.
Ownership verification
A finder should not receive private proof. The platform can ask the owner to confirm secret identifying details and use an internal verified ownership badge after review.
Data retention
Recovery contact data should be deleted or redacted when it is no longer needed. Scan logs should have a defined retention period and public posts should mask sensitive contact details.
