QR tag versus GPS collar
A QR tag has no battery and no subscription, but it works only after someone scans it. A GPS collar can provide live tracking but needs power, network coverage and a compatible service. They solve different problems and can be used together.
Collar tag design
Use rounded edges, waterproof material and a QR large enough to scan while the tag is held steady. Print a human-readable tag ID as a backup if the code becomes partly damaged.
Safe pickup process
Ask the finder for a photo and approximate area, verify a unique mark or behaviour, and meet in a public place. Use the recovery case and handover code to close the record after the pet is returned.
Keep the profile current
Update the pet photo, phone preferences, vaccination note and temporary travel contact before trips. The same printed QR can continue to work.
